Economic Growth Outpaces Other States for Fourth Consecutive Year

For the past four years, North Dakota's economy has continued to outpace all other states, according to information released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Factors driving the state’s robust economy include continued growth in economic production, new jobs and rising wages.

The Best States to Make a Living in 2014

North Dakota ranked as the #6 best state to make a living by personal finance site,

The site used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, C2ER and the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index to determine the best and worst states to make a living. They examined the average salary, cost of living, employment rate, and workplace conditions for each state to generate the rankings.

Three North Dakota Metro’s Named in Top 10 

Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks were named in the top 10 leading U.S. Metros for economic and job growth by Area Development Online. The ranking analyzes economic and workforce data for 379 MSAs (metro surrounding areas). They produce a snapshot of cities across America that are poised to capitalize on the new potential for economic growth as the United States leaves the recession behind.

Oil is the New Gold: Inside North Dakota’s Oil Rush

North Dakota is now producing more than one million barrels of oil a day. Oil production statistics released by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) revealed that the state produced 1,002,445 barrels per day in April 2014, up from 793,832 the year before. The new statistics mean that North Dakota now joins the ranks of Texas, Alaska, California and Louisiana - the only states to ever generate more than one millions barrels per day. (Texas is the only other one still producing that amount.)

Jamestown was named one of the "Top Micropolitan Groups of the Year" by Site Selection Magazine, the official publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC). The magazine delivers expansion planning information to over 44,000 readers including corporate executives, site selection consultants and real estate professionals.

North Dakota LNG Announces Liquefied Natural Gas Production Facility in Tioga

North Dakota LNG announced the construction of a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing facility in Tioga, the first of its kind in North Dakota. The facility will convert natural gas into value-added liquid fuels and will help meet the oil and gas industry’s need for cost-effective power sources. When completed, the NDLNG plant will be capable of processing 76,000 gallons of LNG per day to be used as an alternative fuel in commercial trucks, farm tractors and other vehicles.

Hess Corporation Celebrates Tioga Gas Plant Expansion

Gov. Jack Dalrymple joined representatives from Hess Corporation and other state and local leaders in commemorating the recently completed expansion of the Tioga Gas Plant. This expansion will help reduce flaring and add value to natural gas produced in North Dakota.

UAS Business Development on the Rise in North Dakota
IMG_0479.JPGThe North Dakota UAS Team has been busy over the past several months traveling around the globe for Unmanned Aircraft Systems business development. Team members were at ILA Berlin, AUVSI, the UAS Action Summit in Grand Forks and the Farnborough Airshow, UK.

North Dakota, a leader in UAS, was selected as one of six FAA test sites that will conduct crucial research to assist the FAA. North Dakota will assist the FAA in their efforts to develop regulatory standards to foster integration of UAS into the national airspace system. The Northern Plans UAS Test Site became the first site to begin flights in May 2014.

Cummings Ag Expands Operations
Cummings Ag is expanding its operations and services to further process agricultural commodities for commercial processing, marketing and brokerage companies.  The plant expansion is due to enhanced market share.  The expansion increases the company’s storage capacity, efficiency of plant, and allows for the cleaning and processing of a wider variety of commodities. The company plans to construct a new 24,000 square foot processing plant and adding additional storage capacity.

Natural Gas Liquids Study Complete
IHS Gloval Chemical recently presented to the EmPower ND Commission on the results of studies to determine value-added marketing opportunities for renewable energy and oil and gas. The studies addressed ethanol and natural gas liquids (NGLs). The studies show that there is the potential for both petro- and bio-chemical production facilities in the state. Research ND Grants Available
Research ND promotes the development and commercialization of products and processes through industry/university research partnerships. Through Research ND, firms have the opportunity to leverage their research, development and commercialization funds and gain access to the creative talents and extensive research base of North Dakota’s research universities.

Research ND provides matching funds to help companies pay for the university research. Projects are initiated by the companies to meet their own research and development goals. Research ND matching funds are awarded on a competitive basis for projects based on proposals submitted jointly by researchers from one North Dakota Research University and a private sector partner.
