North Dakota Commerce Commissioner Jay Schuler today issued the following statement after passage of the Omnibus Bill by Congress. A portion of the bill increases load restrictions on North Dakota interstate highways allowing more efficient movement of containers.
“This change will have a significant impact on commerce in North Dakota by reducing costs by as much as 30 percent for exporters,” Schuler said. “This change will improve North Dakota’s ability to conduct value-added agriculture business by lowering gathering costs. I want to thank the North Dakota Trade Office for the leadership and execution of strategy to get the policy change included in the bill.”
Schuler also pointed out the important role the Governor’s Office, North Dakota Department of Transportation, North Dakota Department of Agriculture, North Dakota Legislature and the state’s congressional delegation played in achieving this modification in transportation policy. The North Dakota Department of Transportation worked with legislators and stakeholders to ensure the highways were protected with the increased loads.
