The military has been the primary sector in the United States utilizing UAS technology in order to strengthen security measures and national defense. According to the Aerospace Industries Association, the United States currently flies more than 1 million unmanned flight hours annually and the Department of Defense operates more than 7,000 unmanned aerial systems. Research for using Unmanned Systems technology in military situations began in World War I and has since been adopted in some form by all branches of our nation’s military.
Military Applications of UAS Technology include:
Monitoring chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear conditions
Monitoring waterways and shipping
Aiding in search and rescue efforts
Monitoring aerial traffic
