Search Rankings Database
The North Dakota Department of Commerce maintains a database of information detailing areas where our state ranks among the ‘Best 20 States' in various categories of interest. To access a list, use one of the search tools provided in the menu to the left. State rankings are available through both category and key word searches. A third option is available that allows for a search of rankings related to specific cities or entities within the state.
Please note that some lists show the top state as having a ranking of #1 while other lists designate a ranking of 50 or 51 as the best. For instance, a state with the highest taxes might be ranked #1 so a state that appears at or near the bottom of that particular list is actually in the most favorable position. It all depends on the perspective of the study. To clarify this issue and provide information for comparison purposes, our reports list the state with the best ranking (whether that is 1, 50 or 51) and the state with the worst ranking, as well as North Dakota's ranking for each topic. We do not, however, provide rankings for all 50 states and/or the District of Columbia.
